Clean Title -Car in good condition.Praise and hallelujahs for the BMW 7-Series—no, it's not the most practical vehicle on the road, nor is it the cheapest. But in its fifth generation, the big Bimmer gets a complete revamp for its formerly odd styling, while preserving its BMW driving feel.
The edition of the 7-Series sports a much happier, relaxed look and feel. The last version had a tall greenhouse and low nose, so it looked like an awkwardly formal top hat. Its raised decklid might have been copied everywhere, but it was still ugly. Now, the 7er as it's called by enthusiasts has been relieved of those awkward forms. It shines—the character line down its flanks lends some crispness to its profile, the ribs in its taillamps add a bit of upscale kink.
There's a little blessed anonymity in its rear shoulders, a more open grille, and a wide, low air intake across the face that visually drops the front end.
A long-wheelbase Li version is offered along with the more abbreviated i, but the visual differences are slight. Inside, it's also a job well done, with a driver-centric design that wears a blend of modern shapes and traditional surfaces. The instruments can be completely blacked out when needed; otherwise they glimmer softly amid wood trim, ceramic-finished knobs, and the futuristic controllers that direct the transmission and driving dynamics, as well as the iDrive system more on that later.
For now, there's a single powertrain offered in the BMW 7-Series. It's a horsepower, 4. Off the list for now are BMW's V and any of its marvelous diesels, but the big V-8 pushes the 7er almost as well as the old V did—with just a faint whistle from the turbochargers. It's teamed to a six-speed automatic transmission that helps it offer class-leading fuel economy, BMW says though official EPA numbers aren't in yet.
Elsewhere the 7-Series' performance is unbelievably nimble for a car so long and heavy. It's planted and stable at the mph, as seen on TheCarConnection. Credit goes to a raft of technology—a lightweight control-arm independent suspension front and rear, active rear steering which turns the rear wheels opposite the fronts in some situations to enhance turn-in with variable assist on cars with the Sport packageand on the Li, an air suspension.
2009 World Series Game 6, Phillies at Yankees, November 4
Then there's the somewhat maddening Driving Dynamics Control, which allows you to pick settings for shock firmness, transmission shifts, steering heft, and throttle response. More often than not, you'll find it easiest to let the 7-Series decide on the settings and leave the rest to wasted transistors.
The comfort and quality feel of the BMW 7-Series' cabin is astounding. The lighter-weight body has ever more passenger room. The multi-adjustable front seats are paragons of comfort, and the back's not shabby either. On long-wheelbase cars, there's 5. And if you're into sybaritic pleasure, you can order backseats that ventilate and massage your back and seat. Four zones of climate control keep the interior at an ambient ideal, and the leathers and woods are of Rolls-Royce quality—fitting since BMW has owned Rolls-Royce for a decade.
The techno look of some controls detracts a bit from the overall feel.
Safety gear is comprehensive, and includes front, side, and side-curtain airbags; rear-seat head protection airbags; active head restraints on the front seats; and knee airbags. Stability and traction control are standard, along with anti-lock brakes. Additionally, BMW offers a Driver Assistance Package that adds blind-spot detection, a lane-departure warning system that vibrates the steering wheel when the car drifts from its lane, and automatic high beams.
Side-view cameras are another option that can help prevent low-speed accidents, as is the 7-Series' available head-up display. Luxury and technology features of the BMW 7-Series can threaten the relaxed atmosphere in the cabin.
Along with all those safety bits and pieces, the new 7er also offers a new version of iDrive to control navigation, climate, and audio functions, operated through a joystick; Google Maps, which lets you send destinations from a home computer to the car in Europe, the 7-Series can be ordered with wide-open Internet access in the backseat ; GPS navigation with hard-drive map and music storage; an iPod connectivity interface; a six-disc DVD changer; premium sound with Sirius Satellite Radio and HD Radio; and a rear-seat entertainment system.
The coup de grace? An owners' manual implanted into the car's electronics, so you can read it from the display screen. The previous generation of BMW 7-Series received much criticism for its more overt ungainly, some have said styling, so for the BMW 7-Series edition, BMW's designers have returned to the automaker's more traditional look.A penumbral lunar eclipse, which is the second of four lunar eclipses inoccurs on July 7, It is a minor eclipse with a penumbral magnitude of 0.

The Mazda CX-7 stands out from the crowd of carlike crossover SUVs with its steeply raked degree incline windshield; its curvaceous, aggressively styled exterior; and a sport-tuned drivetrain and suspension. Powering the Mazda CX-7 is a standard 2.
It is very similar to the engine used in the now-defunct MazdaSpeed6 sport sedan, and it's intended to provide a similar high-performance driving experience in a vehicle with greater versatility.
Forthe CX-7 requires the use of premium fuel. The CX-7's engine doesn't feel refined when you're taking advantage of all its power, and it's not as fuel-efficient as rival vehicles. While the six-speed automatic transmission is standard, it does allow easy manual control of the gears—helpful when driving enthusiastically or on mountain roads.
In Drive, we find the transmission to be nicely responsive; however, upshifts can be somewhat harsh. Crisp handling and impressive grip help take advantage of the turbocharged engine's power, and the Mazda CX-7 corners quite flat, considering its nearly two-ton weight and tall stance.
Ride quality is mostly smooth, but larger bumps can be jarring, and coarse road surfaces make the interior uncommonly noisy. Steering feel is nice and tight, and the CX-7 changes direction quickly and securely. Inside, the sportscar theme continues; the CX-7's interior is styled more like the cockpit of a sports coupe than an SUV, except for the vast dashboard required by the steeply raked windshield.
Front-row accommodation in the Mazda CX-7 is good; the seats allow plenty of space and hold you in place. Folding the backseats down allows 70 inches of flat floor space for cargo, although it's not particularly roomy or convenient given the sloping roofline, rakish hatch, and tall loading height. The cargo floor can, however, be flipped over to a washable surface for carrying dirty items. Mazda could learn a thing or two in packaging from its Asian rivals as there are few storage spaces for small items.
Consider the Mazda CX-7 a jacked-up hatchback with a lot of extra utility, and you'll understand its role. The CX-7 has an oversize center console storage area that can take a laptop computer.
The wide console area may interfere with knee room for some taller drivers, though. Overall, ergonomics are quite good. Air conditioning, power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, and cruise control are standard across the line. CX-7 Sports lose their standard power driver's seat this year.

China's People's Armed Police were deployed and two days later hundreds of Han people clashed with both police and Uyghurs. PRC officials said that a total of people died, most of whom were Hans, with 1, others injured and many vehicles and buildings destroyed. Many Uyghurs disappeared during wide-scale police sweeps in the days following the riots; Human Rights Watch HRW documented 43 cases and said figures for real disappearances were likely to be much higher.
Rioting began when the police confronted the march calling for a full investigation into the Shaoguan incidenta brawl in southern China several days earlier in which two Uyghurs had been killed. The Chinese central government alleged that the riots themselves were planned from abroad by the World Uyghur Congress WUC and its leader Rebiya Kadeer while Kadeer denies fomenting the violence in her fight for Uyghur "self-determination.
In the weeks that followed, official sources reported that over 1, Uyghurs were arrested and detained; Uyghur-run mosques were temporarily closed. At the start of the 19th century, 40 years after the Qing reconquest of the area, there were aroundHan and Hui Chinese in Northern Xinjiang and somewhat more than twice that number of Uyghurs in southern Xinjiang. Toops noted that today's demographic situation is similar to that of the early Qing period in Xinjiang.
In northern Xinjiang, the Qing brought in Han, Hui, Uyghur, Xibe, and Kazakh colonists after they exterminated the Zunghar Oirat Mongols in the region, with one third of Xinjiang's total population consisting of Hui and Han in the north, while around two thirds were Uyghurs in southern Xinjiang's Tarim Basin. Although current PRC minority policy, which is based on affirmative actionshas reinforced a Uyghur ethnic identity that is distinct from the Han population, some scholars argue that Beijing unofficially favours a monolingual, monocultural model that is based on the majority.
Tensions between Uyghurs and Han have resulted in waves of protest in recent years. The riots took place several days after a violent incident in Shaoguan, Guangdongwhere many migrant workers are employed as part of a programme to alleviate labour shortages. According to state media, a disgruntled former worker disseminated rumours in late June that two Han women had been raped by six Uyghur men.
At some point the demonstration became violent. When Phones Were Fun – The QWERTY Phones (2001-2008)
A government statement called the riots a "pre-empted, organised violent crime [ All parties, then, agree that the protests were organised beforehand; the main points of contention are whether the violence was planned or spontaneous, and whether the underlying tensions reflect separatist inclinations or a desire for social justice. Demonstrations began on the evening of 5 July with a protest in the Grand Bazaara prominent tourist site, and crowd reportedly gathering at the People's Square area.
How the demonstrations became violent is unclear. After the confrontation with police turned violent, rioters began hurling rocks, smashing vehicles, breaking into shops and attacking Han civilians. The official news agency, Xinhua, reported that police believed agitators were trying to organise more unrest in other areas in Xinjiang, such as Aksu and the Yili Prefecture. Local Uyghurs blamed the security forces for using excessive force—they "attacked the protesters and arrested 50 people".
Up to 12, students at the Kashgar Teaching Institute were confined to campus since Sunday's riots, according to the Post. During the first hours of the rioting, state media only reported that three people had been killed. Xinhua did not immediately disclose the ethnic breakdown of the dead, but journalists from The Times and The Daily Telegraph reported that most of the victims appeared to have been Han.
The city remained tense while journalists invited into the city witnessed confrontational scenes between Chinese troops and Uyghurs demanding the release of family members who they said had been "arbitrarily" arrested.
Mass protests had been quelled by 8 July, although sporadic violence was reported. Over more people were reported arrested in early August.
